Technology Assessments

The use of technology in support of the medication system is quickly becoming a necessary element of safe practice. ISMP staff experienced in the selection and implementation of various information systems, robotics, and medication-related devices can assist organizations in evaluating their technology and associated processes and make clear recommendations to improve safe use. Technology assessments can include pharmacy systems, integrated health information systems, computerized prescriber order entry systems, electronic prescribing systems, bar-coded point of care systems, robotics for packaging and filling of pharmaceuticals, infusion pumps, as well as stand-alone information systems used to support care in the emergency department, oncology, and perioperative settings.
