ISMP CHEERS AWARD for Professional Organizations, Regulatory Agencies, Group Collaboratives, and Non-profit Organizations

Nomination Criteria

The ISMP CHEERS AWARD for Professional Organizations and Group Collaboratives is presented to groups of greater than three individuals that demonstrate exemplary commitment to furthering the science and scholarship of medication safety through innovative and creative projects, programs, educational efforts, standard setting, and/or research. The winners of this award recognize the necessity of teamwork through their actions and push the boundaries of group achievement of a common goal in medication safety.

The ISMP CHEERS AWARD for Professional Organizations and Group Collaboratives is presented to groups that:

  • Clearly identify a high-risk, error-prone medication safety initiative that impacts large groups
  • Design and plan a safety initiative to study and improve the safety of medication use across a large population of healthcare practitioners
  • Demonstrate successful implementation of innovative, proactive medication error reduction strategies based on the ISMP philosophy and previous recommendations
  • Encourage continued momentum for the use of such medication safety strategies that stretch far beyond a few individuals or small groups
  • Demonstrate a willingness to share learning beyond the organization (e.g., presentations or articles have been written and widely disseminated; tools shared on intranet, and through newsletters)

Application for Professional Organizations and Group Collaboratives Award

Please provide brief answers to the following questions using the award criteria above. Attachments and other materials illustrating the activity or its effectiveness may be included in the submission.

The descriptive narrative should be no longer than seven double-spaced typed pages and must include:

  1. A description of the group or collaborative formed
  2. A clear description of the priority initiatives for medication safety improvements and the intended outcome
  3. A discussion of “barriers faced” or “lessons learned” from the experience
  4. A description of the strategies implemented and the process and/or outcome measurements used over time to determine present success
  5. Demonstrated examples of how this initiative is being communicated to the healthcare community at large
