In response to global demand, ISMP is announcing open registration for its International Experience, a mentorship program. This intensive four-week program*, to be held at ISMP’s office in the United States, is designed to meet the unique needs of international healthcare practitioners and organizations wishing to engage in top-level medication safety activities.
Program Overview:
International participants are invited to spend time at ISMP’s office in suburban Philadelphia, PA to work with some of the Institute’s top safety experts on both group and individual learning projects. Participants will attend lectures on key areas in medication safety as well as provide ISMP staff with an overview of their facility’s medication safety efforts. Time will be spent on developing or enhancing a strategic medication safety plan for participants’ individual facilities/countries.
Participants also will visit a variety of healthcare and medication safety-focused organizations, based on their areas of interest, and have the opportunity to accompany ISMP staff to medication safety offsite meetings, presentations, and other engagements as part of their learning experience.
International Experts:
ISMP is a globally-recognized leader in medication error analysis and education, and has provided education and assistance on medication safety issues to health professionals and healthcare systems all over the world, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Kuwait, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The Institute also maintains relationships with many international health organizations and holds a meeting for international pharmacists each year in December.
Unique Methods and Tools:
ISMP has valuable resources to help participants evaluate their organizations’ medication use processes, identify areas of risk exposure, implement safety recommendations, and measure progress over time. Available resources include ISMP’s Ten Key Elements of the Medication Use System™, Assess-ERR™, and Action Agendas. ISMP also offers a medication safety self assessment for hospitals that is being used by several countries as part of their national medication safety efforts, including Spain, the Netherlands, and Australia.
