CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES

Services that ISMP provides to the healthcare community at no charge include:

  • Free consultations on safety issues for students and healthcare practitioners,
  • Nationwide drug safety mailings regarding urgent practice-related issues not under the purvey of FDA or other regulatory authorities,
  • Phone calls and mailings to healthcare practitioners to follow up on error reports,
  • Phone calls, mailings, and visits with pharmaceutical company executives about product safety issues,
  • Regularly-scheduled Washington, DC travel to meet with regulatory authorities about medication safety issues,
  • Educational presentations to medical, nursing, and pharmacy students at no charge, when requested during scheduled travel to their area, and
  • National meetings and follow-up on major medication safety topics.
  • Operate the national voluntary medication error reporting program (ISMP MERP)
  • Follow up with reporters to identify error-related topics for further investigation
  • Provide testimony as necessary at federal senate and house committee hearings
  • Interact with oversight agencies and serve on committees for safety organizations such as FDA, The Joint Commission, National Quality Forum, Institute of Medicine, professional and consumer organizations and other patient safety agencies.
